"There's hills in them there hills"

Today was a good hill riding day as we made our way through a steeply gorged landscape. The sides of the valleys were heavily wooded and plunged 1000 feet from tabletop plateaus to pastoral fields below. It made for a day of slow ascents and fast descents, but with great scenery and very little traffic it was enjoyable and seemed to fly by. The landscape is filled with American Oak and many of the ranch names riff on this theme with names like "One Oak", "Two Oak", "Red Oak", and "Blue Oak".
It was also a day of good food. After our breakfast at the camp we stopped at Leakey (pron. Lake-ee) for a huge and excellent Mexican lunch at Mama Chole's then on to Vanderpool where we bought drinks and pints of Blue Bell ice cream. For dinner Bob, a friend of Dave (our tour leader) brought massive quantities of Texas BBQ to the Lost Maples State Natural Area where we are camping. So everyone is now stuffed at least to satisfaction and perhaps a little past.
Tomorrow, another 70 miles of Texas hill country.
